ABOUT

TRANSBORDA - Almada International Performing Arts Festival

TRANSBORDA brings an international context for contemporary cutting-edge creation in dance to Almada. Driven by a desire to experiment and to exceed borders, TRANSBORDA creates a space for the dissemination of performance works and for artistic sharing.

Every year TRANSBORDA brings together artists and curators who develop works focusing on the diversity of bodies, the power of affections and the perceptive and participatory re-invention of common spaces through art.

TRANSBORDA makes up the international programming axis of Casa da Dança and relies on the support of Almada City Council.

The festival is the result of the professional experience of Adriana Grechi and Amaury Cacciacarro, who devised and directed 13 editions of the Festival Contemporâneo de São Paulo (FCD). By occupying theaters and public spaces with a programme free of charge, aimed at the democratisation of contemporary performing arts, the FCD brought very diverse audiences closer to new international productions. Living in Almada since 2018, they founded Núcleo – cultural association and idealised TRANSBORDA, a festival to overflow borders and to trigger affective dimensions between artists and audiences, activating cultural spaces and theatres in the city as relational fields turned to conviviality, friction and sharing among people from different cultural and social backgrounds.

With a format centred on research and artistic qualification, the festival seeks to broaden artistic access in the municipality, fomenting and knitting together works connected to the present that reflect on the future of dance and of contemporary performative arts.
